Food for a Fiver

Our Community Pantry is a welcoming space where people can save money on their food shop whilst also helping prevent food from ending up in landfill. We bulk buy food and collect food that is on the verge of being scrapped by local stores in order to provide an offer to local people. For £5 a person, you can collect up to 17 items of ambient, bakery and fresh fruit and vegetables, plus enjoy a free hot/cold drink and a tasty treat. We also offer an option just to join us for a hot/cold drink and a cake/biscuit/pastry for £1. There is a separate entrance should you wish to do this.
We open 10-11am on Wednesday mornings. As our pantry relies on volunteers, if we do not have enough people we cannot open, so please keep an eye on our social media for updates. If you could spend a few hours volunteering, we need people on Tuesday evenings to pick up and sort out food, and people on Wednesday mornings to help deliver the pantry. Please contact our volunteer coordinator here.
We are keen for no family to go hungry and therefore we have partnered with Bexhill and Battle Foodbank and can refer you if you are struggling to pay £5 for our service, please come along to the pantry - we are happy to help.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can bring ambient products (tins, packets, jars) along to the pantry on Wednesday mornings between 9 and 11am. Due to storage, we are unable to take donations outside of this time.

We endeavour to source enough food for everyone, but as number of attendees fluctuate each week, it is not always easy to purchase the right amount of food. Food is limited to a number of items per table and you can expect to be offered between 15 and 17 items of food.

Due to limited space we ask that people do not start queuing until 9.50am.

Doors open promptly at 10am and from January 2025 there will be an area to wait indoors. You will be given a ticket, therefore waiting inside will not lose you place within the queue.

We hope for the pantry to open every week, however, as we rely on volunteers, if we do not have enough people to open, then the pantry will not run that week. Please check our social media pages regularly for updates.

You can volunteer by contacting leanne.dedman@bexhillfamilycollective.org.uk. We would be delighted to hear from you.
