The Bexhill Family Collective

The Bexhill Family Collective was established in August 2020 to address the closure of nurseries and children's centres in Bexhill. In March 2021, we opened Dragonflies Community Nursery on the site of Rainbow Childcare Centre, which had shut down in December 2020. During the first few months of engaging with the local community, we became aware of how the pandemic and the current cost of living crisis were affecting the residents of Bexhill and Rother. The Bexhill Family Collective CIC now strives to address the needs of local people with the goal of providing access to work, education, and leisure that will enable them to lead fulfilling lives in the future.

Community Pantry

HELP US TO PREVENT FOOD WASTE

The Bexhill Family Collective CIC collects food that would otherwise go to landfill and offers this, on a first come, first served basis from our Community Pantry, located at Sidley Youth centre. As of April 2023 we have served 66,770 meals and saved 88,707 kg in CO2. We accept donations of ambient products e.g. tins and packets. Unfortunately, we cannot accept refrigerated or frozen goods.

Allotment Afternoon

AIMED AT FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN UNDER 5

Designed to help all in our community learn how to tend an allotment, grow their own food, and be part of our allotment community. We are fortunate to work with a group of people at Ingram allotments whilst we wait for a suitable space for us to start our own allotment. During harvest seasons you are even able to take home some food.
We are particularly keen for this session to be intergenerational. Many children have little experience of being with older generations, and we feel this sharing of experience is invaluable for future generations. If you work with elderly people and think this is something they would like to be part of, please get in contact with us.
